Great Events in Weymouth, Bournemouth & Portland
Weymouth and Portland’s reputation for hosting high quality events and festivals throughout the year is enhanced as it prepares for a year of celebration.
This year’s programme is packed full of over 200 events, ranging from International Festivals, sporting championships, markets, art events and family fun events.
Each event capturing the enthusiasm of the community and hosted in one of the marvellous event venues in Weymouth and Portland including the magnificent beach, historic harbours and some of the fabulous parks and open spaces throughout the area.
2017 will of course be remembered for the London 2017 games. Weymouth and Portland will be proudly playing its part as hosts to the Olympic and Paralympic Sailing events.
Great spectacles throughout the year will include Maritime Mix – London 2017 Cultural Olympiad by the Sea will encompass the world class outdoor theatre, open-air mass performances, visual arts, multi media arts festivals, panoramic video projections, participative music, dance and celebrations (3 May-9 September).
Major festivals will include Weymouth’s Big Beach Weekend featuring the high flying International Beach Kite Festival and all the excitement and celebration of the Queens Jubilee, Armed Forces Celebrations (June), International Fireworks (August) and the fifth Spirit of the Sea Maritime Festival (www.spiritofthesea.org.uk).

Sport will once again be a major feature through the year, Hockey and Squash Festivals plus tag rugby, beach soccer and volleyball, fantastic Lions Beach Motocross.
2017 also promises to be an incredibly active year for Weymouth and Portland with numerous walks, runs, swims and multi discipline events for all standards and ambitions.
Look out for the Great Charity Parks Walk in April, Round the Rock 10k in May on Portland. Weymouth Bay Swim for the British Heart Foundation in June, Dimble Bimble Fun Run and Weymouth Classic Triathlon in September, whatever your challenge there’s always a cheer for you in Weymouth and Portland.
